YATAHEY– A couple experienced a catastrophic loss Jan. 12 in the form of material possessions. Stolen from the home of James and Elaine Henderson was more than $18,000 worth of reported belongings, along with the theft of their gun metal blue Chrysler 300C, with an estimated worth of about $35,000.

Jewelry, a Stetson hat, Navajo baskets, firearms, clothing, and expensive liquor, including an engraved bottle labeled “The Senator’s Whisky,” were among some of the many items listed as stolen in McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nacona Clark’s report.

A neighbor saw two suspects moving stuff out of the home, prompting him to call police.

UPDATE: MCSO Lt. James Maiorino said the stolen vehicle was found in Ft. Defiance, and as of press time no other items have been recovered. The suspects are still at large.
