Aggravated DWI (Third)
New Mexico State Police pulled over a motorcyclist from Thoreau driving in the wrong lane and eventually arrested Joeromeo Hatathle, 37, for his third DWI.
Officer Alejandro Solis-Torres was patrolling southbound on Highway 608 near mile marker 1 when he saw a motorcycle driving north in the southbound lane. A vehicle in front of Solis-Torres hit its brakes and the motorcycle pulled off onto the right side of the road.
Solis-Torres followed the motorcycle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Hatathle, reportedly tried to walk away from the scene before he was told to stop.
Hatathle did not provide the requested documentation. He also reportedly showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot eyes, smelling of alcohol, and swaying in place. He admitted he consumed an unspecified number of alcoholic beverages prior to driving.
After stating he had a hip problem, Hatathle took the Standard Field Sobriety Tests. However, he performed poorly and Solis-Torres determined he was unable to drive safely and placed him under arrest.
Solis-Torres transported Hatathle to the local state police office for the breath test, where he posted samples of .23 and .24. Solis-Torres was also advised that Hatathle had two prior convictions, the motorcycle was unregistered, and he had an active bench warrant out of Farmington.
Hatathle was then transported to McKinley County Adult Detention Center and booked for aggravated DWI (third), careless driving, wrong-way driving, and no license, registration, or insurance. His pretrial hearing is set for March 19.
