ASSAULTING OFFICER/NURSE

Gallup, May 2

A St. Michaels woman was arrested on May 2 after she got into an altercation with a McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy and a health care worker.

Candace Manuelito, 30, was charged with one count each of battery on a household member and battery on a healthcare worker.

Gallup Police Officer Timo Molina was dispatched on May 2 about 5 pm because of a report of a woman being disorderly. When he got there, a state police officer as well as a McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy, Sgt. Tammy Houghtaling, were already there and had Manuelito in custody.

He said Manuelito appeared to be intoxicated and was yelling and crying. Houghtaling told him that before he arrived, Manuelito had become combative and had struck her in her face with her hand and had ripped off Houghtaling’s face mask.

Manuelito was placed under arrest and Molina transported her to the Gallup Indian Medical Center for a medical clearance. He said he left her there, but was called back to the hospital a little later when it was reported that she had punched a registered nurse in the face with her fist after she said she needed to go to the restroom and he asked her to wait.

After she was given a medical clearance, she was transported to the county jail and booked.

Manuelito is being held on a $3,000 cash or surety bond.

ABUSIVE MAN

Gallup, May 1

A Gallup man has been placed under arrest for threatening to hit his mother. Patrick M. Brown, 40, has been charged with assault on a household member.

The complaint was called in about 7 pm on May 1 by his mother, Gertrude Holyan, who told McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Blackgoat that her son had been drinking all day. When she confronted him about this, she said he began yelling at her and calling her names.

She said she told him to leave and he came toward her with a closed fist. As she backed away, he reportedly told her “Boy, I really feel like doing this to you.”

Holyan told Blackgoat she felt he was going to hit her and she was scared. By the time Blackgoat arrived he had left the area and she said she would call if he returned.

That call came a couple of hours later. Holyan said he had come back and was yelling at everyone. This time when Blackgoat arrived, Brown was still there.

Blackgoat said he confronted Brown and asked what was going on. Brown said it was his auntie, “She is starting everything.” He was asked about the incident with his mother and he again blamed his aunt.

Blackgoat said Brown was hard to understand and kept referring to his aunt. He admitted that he had been drinking but said he was not drunk. Feeling that Brown was the primary aggressor, Blackgoat arrested him and took him to the county jail.

Brown was later released on his own recognizance by a judge.
