For its first ART123 Gallery show of 2018, gallupARTS is trying something new. This month, local artist Padma Komaravolu will cover ART123 in Rangoli. Rangoli, or Muggu or Kolam, is a traditional Indian folk art in which colorful patterns are freehanded from rice flour. Rangoli is kind of like sand painting, except with different designs and meaning, of course!
“Rangoli: Traditional Folk Art of India - The Art of Colors and Patterns” will open on Jan. 13 from 6:30 – 8 pm. As part of the opening, Padma will do a live demonstration of the technique. The show will be on view through Feb. 6.
