The October meeting of the Plateau Sciences Society will take place on Sunday, October 18, at the Red Mesa Center, 105 W. Hill Street, Gallup. The social get-together with refreshments will run from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The business meeting will start promptly at 3:00 p.m., followed by a short break and then the program at 3:45 p.m. The program is open to the public.

This month’s program will highlight the many years that Elizabeth (Betty) Kelley, Sheila Brewer and other members of the Plateau Sciences Society worked on the excavations of the Vidal Site just north of Gallup. This site, located in Heaton Canyon consisted of a Great Kiva and a cluster of buildings, contemporaneous with the Village of the Great Kivas which is located about 10 miles east of Zuni. Both sites have been connected to the Chacoan Culture.

Membership renewals are due this month. Membership in the Society is open to anyone who is looking for an opportunity to study and appreciate the social and natural sciences as they relate to the Colorado Plateau and its people.
