New Mexico State Police shoot, kill man

On Monday morning, New Mexico State Police Officers responded to a call for assistance from the Laguna Tribal Police in reference to an armed individual that fled from tribal authorities.

Officers located the individual and subsequently shots were fired. The suspect sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This incident occurred on the Laguna Reservation west of Albuquerque, north of the 126 exit on Interstate 40.

The sequence of events leading up the officer discharging his weapon is currently being investigated. No other information is available at this time.

All details of this incident are being investigated by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.

The names of the officer involved and the suspect will not be released until interviews have been conducted and next of kin has been notified.  Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be referred to an assigned district attorney's office for review.
