Game was part of annual John Lomasney Invitational Tournament

Senior all-state guard Kalian Mitchell put up 27 points and was strong through the third and fourth quarters, but Tohatchi had no answer for junior forward Ashley Antone and dropped a Dec. 1 second round John Lomasney tournament game to Gallup, 71-67.

The game was played before a capacity crowd at Gallup High School, most of whom came out to see the Lady Cougars,  who won the 3A state basketball championship last year.

As a result of the win, the Lady Bengals advanced to the tournament championship game, but fell to Bel Air of El Paso, Texas, 69-63. Tohatchi lost 54-29 to Carlsbad in the runner up game of the...

Pats out of state 5A playoffs

BELEN, N.M. — The No. 7 seeded Miyamura Patriots looked good on offense and defense going into the locker room Nov. 18, with the score tied 14-14 against No. 2 and undefeated Belen High in the state quarterfinals of the 5A football playoffs.

But the Patriots (9-3) failed to muster that same enthusiasm and fell to the Eagles 46-21 before a rather large throng of travelling Patriots’ fans. The Eagles scored an unanswered 13 points in the third quarter.

“We had a bye game last week and I guess you could say we were trying to shake off some rust,” Eagles’ head coach Greg Henington said after the game. “We’re pleased with the win.”

The Miyamura Patriots held off late drives by Deming and beat the Wildcats 49-26 Nov. 10 in a first-round 5A state playoff football game played at Angelo DiPaolo Memorial Stadium.

The Patriots (9-2, 3-2) advanced and will play Belen (10-0, 4-0) on Nov. 18 at 1 pm in a home game for Belen. The Eagles are the sole undefeated team to play the Patriots this year.

“I thought we played well,” Patriots’ head coach Wes Shank said after the game. “In the playoffs, everybody plays their best game. That’s just the way the playoffs are.”

Senior quarterback Matt Chavez played superbly, keeping the Patriots ahead after both...

Pats draw Deming in first-round state playoffs

The Miyamura Patriots gave up 34 first half points and went on to lose to 5A foe Aztec High 64-56 in an offensively-charged football game played Nov. 3 at Angelo DiPaolo Memorial Stadium. The game was the last of the season for both teams. The Patriots lost a week earlier to another San Juan County 5A team (Farmington), 54-40.

Miyamura now plays Deming (6-4, 3-0) Nov. 10 at home and in a first-round state playoff game. The Wildcats are coming off a 42-14 thrashing last week of Alamogordo.

LOTS OF OFFENSE

The offense of the Patriots averaged 44 points a game on the 2017 football season, while giving up just 17 points a game. As a...
