Each month, Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe in Gallup, chooses and recognizes one local teacher within the Gallup area for the “Teacher of the Month” award. Teachers are nominated by students and those who feel they deserve the recognition for their determination to help local students become more than they expect. Learning about the different states at Rocky View Elementary

What is the capital of California? What is the state fruit of Georgia? What is the official state bird of New Mexico?

Perhaps like others you may find yourself scratching your head to find the answers. Parents and children found these answers and more at “Around the United States Night” held at Rocky View Elementary April 4. From criminal justice to bestselling author

Zollinger Library at UNM-Gallup campus hosted an evening with national bestselling author and former New Mexico criminal justice professional Michael McGarrity March 28.

McGarrity, who lives in Santa Fe, incorporates a touch of the rich culture and history of New Mexico into his ideas about police paperwork. McGarrity was in law enforcement in Santa Fe County for about 25 years. His criminal justice career included being an investigator, deputy sheriff, and working in state law enforcement and for the public defender. He began his writing career in the 1980s.
