Myron Footracer, 35, of Gallup, resigned from his position with the Milan Police Department Aug. 6 after a domestic incident at his home.

Suspect arrested after Tse Bonito standoff

The Navajo Police Department received a call of a reported armed robbery that occurred at the Chevron gas station in Window Rock Aug. 4. Navajo Police were called after the male suspect walked into the store with a rifle and proceeded to steal items before fleeing in a black Chevy Avalanche.

Responding officers located the suspect’s vehicle driving through a residential area and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect ignored the officers’ attempts and continued to drive on Highway 264 towards Tse Bonito. Metro law enforcement was notified and officers from the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in the incident.

McKinley County Sheriff Deputy Nocona Clark was dispatched to a residence on Summit Avenue in reference to a male subject wearing a black shirt and khaki pants attempting to break in.

While Clark was speaking to another homeowner on-site, she was contacted again by the person who first called in the incident, and was told a male and female had entered the house.

Clark reached the address and knocked on the front door. She was joined by MCSO Deputy Garylle James, who made contact at the back door. The back door looked as if it had been closed from the inside, according to James.

McKinley County Sheriff Sgt. Salina Brown was working the DWI Task Force when she heard Metro Dispatch over the radio advise on a vehicle parked on the side of Highway 491 around the 13-mile marker with a male subject passed out at the wheel.

Brown proceeded to the location given by dispatch and spotted two vehicles parked on the side of the road near the 10-mile marker. One vehicle, a black SUV, left before Brown could make contact with the driver. The second vehicle, a charcoal Chevy Malibu, had a male subject passed out at the wheel.

WINDOW ROCK – Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and First Lady Phefelia Nez, along with Vice President Myron Lizer and members of the 24th Navajo Nation Council, joined Navajo Head Start students and employees Aug. 15, as they issued a proclamation to recognize Aug. 15 as “Navajo Head Start Day” in support of the Head Start Program’s services to Diné children in Early Head Start and the Head Start Programs.
