SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has ordered state flags to fly at half staff through sundown June 5, to honor George Floyd and all other victims of systemic racism and police violence, who have been the subject of peaceful protests worldwide.

The order, effective immediately, coincides with a memorial service June 4 for Mr. Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn. Other services were planned for June 6 in Raeford, N.C., where some of his family lives, and June 8 in Houston, Tex., where he lived for many years.

Gov. gives update on COVID-19 efforts

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham and members of her cabinet updated the public on the state’s efforts to combat COVID-19 within our state along with an announcement to allow breweries to reopen with outdoor and patio seating.

The governor’s June 11 news conference updated COVID-19 numbers for New Mexico.


There are 9,367 total cases in New Mexico with 121 new cases. One-hundred-eighty-nine individuals are hospitalized with 60 of them on ventilators.

In New Mexico, 420 people have lost their lives to COVID-19, including 10 new deaths announced June 11.

“Every death we mourn as a state. We share and give our condolences to the families,” Lujan-Grisham said.

Two men dead after police pursuit

Two men in a Dodge truck with a firearm died in a crash after being pursued by New Mexico State Police and Gallup police at 11:55 on the night of June 5.

The men were seen brandishing a firearm at the Redwood Lodge Motel in Gallup and police were called.

When they arrived at the scene, their unit was nearly struck as the truck drove around their car onto NM State Road 118 and a pursuit ensued.

As the police got closer to the truck, the driver turned the headlights on and off and steered the Dodge into traffic coming toward it. Then the Dodge entered Interstate 40, going eastbound at mile marker 16.

The passenger began throwing objects at officers from the bed of the truck.
