With the release of so many studio movies in limbo, this has been a great time to discover and catch up on some smaller pictures. Independent efforts have been getting more attention lately than they would have otherwise. Here’s another new title being released via Amazon Prime. The Vast of Night is an eerie little period effort.

Made in Texas, it details strange goings-on over the course of an evening in a small New Mexico town. The film doesn’t have stars or large budget money behind it, but it manages to create a wonderful sense of mood and atmosphere...

School becomes supply distribution center

As the COVID-19 pandemic maintains its grasp on the world, people around the Navajo Nation still face a dire need for supplies, whether as a result of living far away from grocery stores or not having reliable transportation to reach them.

Numerous groups have stepped up to help those most in need, particularly elders or people who cannot travel easily, by distributing supplies to them at a spot closer to home. The Navajo Nation Christian Response Team is one of those groups, and they have partnered with Rehoboth Christian School to provide relief across the reservation.

Memorial Day celebration continues in Grants

GRANTS — Cibola County citizens have gathered at the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Friendship and Fire and Ice Parks every Memorial Day since 2009. This year, they had to pay their respects differently.

Despite the current pandemic, a turnout that would normally see over 100 people, saw about 20 show up at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Friendship Park on Grants’ west end.

“I wish we would have had a lot more people come out, but we didn’t advertise it in the paper,” Grants Mayor Modey Hicks told the Gallup Sun. “We had people come in from out of town.
