On impeachment

E-mail Print PDF
To the Editor,

Regarding the impeachment of President Trump, it’s worthwhile to consider that most decisions have both intended and unintended consequences. And the decision to impeach any president isn’t immune from that fact. And with that, it was very important that our New Mexico-based United States Representatives to Congress make all decisions while being as fully informed as possible.

Now, post impeachment, overnight, while most Americans were sleeping, German TV (DW) began reporting that the Ukraine, Germany, Russia, and the EU, have signed a deal to resume and continue transporting Russian natural gas through the Ukraine, to Germany and the EU, via existing pipelines. And...

Letter to the Editor: The birth of Jesus Christ

E-mail Print PDF
Editor,

Call me a heretic, but Jesus Christ was not born on December 25th.  The date was already popular in pagan religious celebrations as the birthday of the sun. The Gospel of Luke actually suggests that Jesus may have been born in the summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night and Roman censuses were not taken in the winter, when temperatures often dropped below freezing and roads were in poor condition.

Letter to the Editor: As Veterans Day approaches

The American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance is the foundation of who we are as American citizens and the sacrifice our veterans have made for our great country. I still recall as a young soldier at Fort Knox how our commanding officer explained the importance of respecting and honoring our flag and the men and women who fought for our freedom.

Our national flag represents all that is good about America. Veterans Day is just a few weeks away and millions of Americans will be celebrating the service and sacrifices made by our men and women in the Armed Forces. Only 1% of our citizens placed their lives on hold to serve and protect this great nation. When we Pledge Allegiance to the Flag...

Letter to the editor: Thank you to Indigenous People’s Day supporters

E-mail Print PDF
Editor,

A note of thanks to everyone who came out to support Indigenous People’s Day on October 14, 2019.

Although the Day is not yet a Federal Holiday, there are efforts nation-wide to make this change happen; 11 states, including New Mexico, have replaced the long held holiday honoring a man that was actually lost at sea and his crew was on the verge of mutiny. Land was sighted just prior to his crew plotting to toss him overboard.

When the Indigenous people rescued the lost seafarers and welcomed them, they were found to be peaceful and friendly, according to the journals that were preserved. Another fact that is kept from the educational systems of the world is that the people...

Letter to the editor: View of a veteran

Government and private companies gone wild in California, just this week electricity was cut off to almost a million people for fear of starting a fire!  The state has lost its mind by allowing a private company to shut off the electricity to people who may be on oxygen, sleep c-pac’s, COPD therapy machines, and other at home medical devices.  So, the question is if a person were to die, or have to go to the hospital because there at home medical devices would not work who is going to pay for this?  This is the same state that bans certain assault firearms and their magazine size, limits concealed carry permits, is a sanctuary state, wants to give illegals free medical care, and...
