Welcome to another look at highlights arriving on Blu-ray and DVD. This week is a bit quieter than usual, but it does contain a major genre title or two that will impress those looking for a chill.

THE MEAN ONE: If you’re looking for some early Christmas-themed entertainment, this independent horror/comedy begins in a sleepy mountain town where a vicious, Grinch-like figure attacks a family. The youngest daughter is the only survivor of the ordeal. 20 years later, she returns home on Christmas Eve, seeking to catch and kill the mysterious figure.

We’ve all seen or clicked past true crime documentaries like Dateline, which detail unusual murders and veer through a list of suspects before focusing in on the killer. The HBO Original documentary Last Stop Larrimah certainly contains elements of these shows, but definitely stands out as something quite unique. ELEMENTAL: The latest animated effort from Pixar and Disney is set in a city where the elements of air, earth, fire and water all live together. A young fire element is expected to take over her parents’ corner store when they retire, but she has trouble keeping her temper under control. When one of her outbursts threatens to close the store for good, she teams up with a water element to save the business. Despite being from and made of completely different elements, romance blossoms between the two.
