GPD asking for help finding missing juvenile

The Gallup Police Department is asking for assistance from the public in locating Leilani Garcia, 14, of Gallup.  She is 5’5" and 100 pounds. She has brown eyes and shoulder length brown hair.

Man in custody after humane society burglary

One man was arrested after he allegedly burglarized the Gallup-McKinley County Humane Society.

On Sept. 29, around 8 am, Gallup Police officers were dispatched to the humane society, 1273 Balok St., after an employee called Metro Dispatch and reported that someone had broken into the business.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they noticed that there were damages to the bathroom and front desk area. A vault was also allegedly stolen. According a press release published on Sept. 30, the vault contained controlled substances that are used to sedate animals.

A surveillance video showed two individuals getting out of a vehicle and then using force to get into the business...

DRIVING WHILE HIGH

Gallup, Sept. 16

A man wasn’t driving drunk, but he was high when police caught up to him.

On Sept. 16, around 8 pm, New Mexico State Police Officer Rachel Hall was driving through McKinley County when she got a call from an off-duty NMSP officer, who told her there was a suspicious person at Taco Bell, 914 E. Hwy. 66.

The officer, Paulena Houston, stated that the man had been doing drugs, and then he took off in a car. She said she began following the car as it took a left on State Road 118 near mile marker 22 and began traveling westbound. Eventually, the car reportedly parked at the courthouse, 207 W. Hill Ave.

Man threatens woman in bar, grocery store

A man threatened a woman twice in one day at two different locations.

On Sept. 5, around 4:30 pm, Gallup Police Officer Cindy Romancito was dispatched to 980 U.S. Hwy. 491, Safeway Supermarket, after a man threatened to kill a woman.

When Romancito arrived at the store she met the business’s security guard. The guard said that a woman had approached him and told him that a man was threatening to kill her.

Romancito was able to speak to the victim, who explained that she works at Third Street Tavern at 510 N. Third St., and that afternoon a man walked into the bar and asked for a cigarette. When he was told that no one in the bar had a cigarette, the man, who was later identified as...

Church Rock man stabs another man in the neck

A man was sitting outside a local business with a friend when another man approached him and stabbed him with a knife.

On Sept. 10, around 4:30 am, Gallup Police Officer Elijah Bowman was dispatched to Premier Carwash, 1115 W. Hwy. 66, after someone was stabbed. A caller told Metro Dispatch that her friend had been stabbed in the neck and the suspect, who was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, had run off.

By the time Bowman arrived at the scene other officers already had the suspect, who was identified as Fernando Largo, on the ground and in handcuffs.
