Veterans’ business and preparations

After a solid start to the day with donuts and breakfast burritos washed down with hot coffee, the A-Team of Veterans Helping Veterans got down to business and the preparations for upcoming events on their calendar.

After a brief litany of those in the group with medical problems, a resolution of sorts was agreed on to impress others to not allow stress and worry to keep them down, which only makes their conditions worse. A tough measure for many, but attitude is always important.

The long-sleeved T’s will be ready by the next general meeting and will have Gallup printed on the left arm in addition to Brothers-In-Arms on the right sleeve. The new order will all be in larger...

The meeting on Jan. 29 for Veterans Helping Veterans in Don Diego’s Restaurant only had two speakers and both were quick and to the point.

The first was Veterans Service Office Tyra Saavedra who passed along the most recent update from the VA. According to Saavedra, there is an office being set up in Gallup at the Ford Canyon Senior Center that will be exclusively for the veteran’s use and manned by a VA representative. Exact timelines have not yet been established but will be posted and announced as soon as they become available.

The second speaker was Bernadine Martin, who announced her candidacy for District Attorney in the election to be held later this year. She was also...

READ THIS ALERT CAREFULLY.  YOUR OHV STICKER FUND MONEY IS BEING STOLEN AGAIN!!

We are angry and disgusted to announce that, once again, the NM Legislature plans to steal your state “OHV sticker funds”. The Senate’s General Appropriation Bill, Senate Bill 158 (SB1582) raids the OHV Trail Safety Fund (aka the “sticker fund”) for $500,000.  That’s right, a half million dollars is in their crosshairs. That is money we all paid into the fund that is supposed to be used for OHV safety and education programs. Adding insult to injury, the stolen funds would be given to State Parks, where motorized recreation is completely prohibited.

The Trail Safety Fund is 100% funded by...

My Healthy Vet is an Effective Tool

E-mail Print PDF
The A-Team meeting on Jan. 22 at the ole 2nd Street Fire Station was very informative for those in attendance. Every veteran is welcome to attend these mostly administrative gatherings.

The main topic of the discussion on this day was the ability of veterans to take better care of themselves. Some do, but the majority doesn’t. One tool developed by the VA is MyHealthyVet.com, a program designed to develop a baseline for the vet, and a permanent record of contacts with the VA. Medications and appointments for treatment become easier and quicker with less hassle, and according to the input to this conversation, can be vital in maintaining the health of many. This is not the same as the...
