ALBUQUERQUE—In order to prevent a dramatic spike in homelessness as New Mexico navigates the COVID-19 crisis and its economic aftermath, social justice and housing organizations asked Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham this week to prioritize legislation creating a rent relief fund at the upcoming special session. Their letter also asks her to support a legislative moratorium on evictions and expanded protections for low-income homeowners.

The City of Gallup will host a fireworks display in honor of our country’s Independence Day on July 3 at around dusk.

Unlike previous years, there will be no live festivities such as vendors, musical entertainment, or other programs for the public in order to comply with the Governor’s Public Health Orders regarding mass gatherings.  In addition, the Sports Complex will not be open for the public to engage in any social activities leading up to the display of fireworks.

SANTA FE - Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham announced modifications to the public health order in our state May 13.

The governor and members of her cabinet met with reporters in a virtual video conference, updating New Mexicans on numbers, modifying requirements for retailers and requiring citizens to wear masks in public.

Present at the news conference was Dr. David Scrase, the Human Services Secretary and Kathy Kunkel, Secretary for the New Mexico Department of Health.

Answering big questions at politico form

The Municipal Officer Election is right around the corner, and Gallup residents will cast their vote to elect two City Councilors, the next Municipal Judge, and the next Mayor of Gallup.

Residents got to meet those candidates at a forum held Feb. 12 at the Gallup-McKinley County Chamber of Commerce at a meeting room that was filled to capacity. The event was sponsored by both the Gallup-McKinley County Chamber of Commerce and Gallup Sun.
