DRUNK PARENT

Gamerco, March 22

A Gamerco woman is facing abuse of a child charges after one of her children called 911 on March 22 about 8 pm and then hung up before talking to the dispatcher.

The dispatcher then called the number back and said the woman who answered the phone sounded like she was intoxicated.

This led to McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Shirley being dispatched to China Loop in Gamerco to see what was going on. When he got to the apartment, he met Deandrea Garcia, 30, who said she was there along with her two boys, six and nine.

Joan Begay

Gallup Police Officer Richard Rangel III said he was on routine patrol when he noticed a car with one of the front headlights off.

He conducted a traffic stop and went up to the driver, Joan Begay, 41, of Gamerco. He said he could smell the odor of intoxicating liquor coming from inside the vehicle. He said Begay also exhibited signs she was intoxicated.

He asked her how much she had to drink that night and she replied that she had four or five beers. She refused to take the standard field sobriety tests, but agreed to do a breath alcohol test, posting samples of .07 and .08.

Dispatch advised Rangel that Begay had three warrants...

PARKING LOT FIGHT

Gallup, March 9

Gallup Police Officer Jared Albert was dispatched to help another officer who was investigating a fight about 2:24 pm.

He raced to Dana Quintero, who said she was in the front of the car near 802 Hwy. 66 and her boyfriend, Labardo Ray Lucero, 23, of Gallup, was in the backseat being belligerent.

She said they got into an argument and Lucero opened the back seat door and looked like he was preparing to jump out even though the car was going 30 miles an hour. Lucero was screaming and yelling and Quintero said she couldn’t understand a word he was saying.

Aggravated DWI

Gallup Police Officer Brandon Salazar said he was on patrol on South Second Street when he noticed two males staggering as they went to their vehicle.

He decided to conduct a welfare stop as Jeremy Jensen, 40, of Gallup, started to drive away. When he talked to Jensen, he said he saw signs of intoxication. Jensen admitted he drank four beers during a two hour period.

Jensen agreed to take the standard field sobriety tests and failed. He was arrested for DWI.
