A driver called the McKinley County Sheriff’s Department after seeing a white Chrysler traveling over 100 mph and swerving on the road near Yatahey.

Deputy Johnson Lee responded to the call, but was unable to locate the car. Then as he began traveling south on U.S. Highway 491, he saw a vehicle matching the description driving south at a high rate of speed. Lee followed it as it turned west onto Highway 264 and continued speeding.

RV fully engulfed in fire near Arizona border

McKinley County Sheriff's Deputy James Garylle was called to a fire on Interstate 40 late in the afternoon on Nov. 4 at the 5 mile marker westbound near the Arizona border.

A recreational vehicle was fully-engulfed and westbound traffic was reduced to a single lane.

The driver and his K-9 companion were not injured.

Person of Interest sought in mobile home park shooting

Gallup Police are looking for a 38-year-old Gallup man for questioning following a shooting Oct. 24 at Red Hill Mobile Home Park at 700 Rimrock Dr.

On the evening of Oct. 24 around 7:50 pm, shots were heard and reported from the mobile home park.

When officers arrived, they found one man dead and another injured by gunshots.

The man who died was identified as Eli William Yazzie, 41, of Sanders, Ariz.

Police are now seeking Melford John,  38, of Gallup as a Person of Interest. John is about 5’9” in height and weighs approximately 212 pounds. He has tattoos on his face, head and chest.

Threats against N.M. election workers will be investigated

New Mexico election workers will have the support of the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office if they become the target of threats.

In an announcement Oct. 21, FBI Special Agent in Charge Raul Bujanda of the Albuquerque FBI Division said the bureau wants to make it clear that threats against any federal, state or local election workers trying to do their jobs will not be tolerated.

“Protecting our democratic process is vital to our nation’s security,” he announced.

The Department of Justice declared the creation of a law enforcement task force in July that would address the rise in threats against election workers, administrators, officials and others associated with the election...
