Gallup, Sept. 23

Rudy Lopez, 28, no address listed, seemingly had a sweet craving that could only be satisfied by breaking into a Gallup restaurant.

On Sept. 23 at about 1:02 am, Gallup Officer Gilbert Gonzales was dispatched to Fratelli’s Bistro at 1209 N. U.S. Hwy. 491 in reference to a burglary in progress. At the scene,  he was advised by officers that a male in a white sweatshirt had fled from the building.

Gonzales searched the surrounding area and located the suspect, whom he knew and identified as Lopez, and detained him. Gonzales returned to the business and met the owner, who stated he received a notification on his phone that someone had entered...

ALBUQUERQUE – Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Nicholas Pinto has been charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence in Indian Country.

Pinto, 23, of Zuni, and an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Zuni, appeared for a detention hearing on Sept. 26, and will remain in custody pending trial, which has not been scheduled.

GPD asking for help finding missing juvenile

The Gallup Police Department is asking for assistance from the public in locating Leilani Garcia, 14, of Gallup.  She is 5’5" and 100 pounds. She has brown eyes and shoulder length brown hair.

She was last seen on Oct. 4, at the Fairfield Inn located at 3510 East U.S. Hwy. 66.  She was last seen wearing maroon leggings and a black jacket.  She is believed to be in the Gallup area; however, her method and direction of travel are not known.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Leilani Garcia is asked to contact the Gallup Police Department at (505) 722-2231 or dial 911.

 


Man in custody after humane society burglary

One man was arrested after he allegedly burglarized the Gallup-McKinley County Humane Society.

On Sept. 29, around 8 am, Gallup Police officers were dispatched to the humane society, 1273 Balok St., after an employee called Metro Dispatch and reported that someone had broken into the business.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they noticed that there were damages to the bathroom and front desk area. A vault was also allegedly stolen. According a press release published on Sept. 30, the vault contained controlled substances that are used to sedate animals.
