Gallup police are investigating reports of several break-ins that occurred in the area on July 31 and Aug. 1.

McKinley County Deputy Frank Villa Jr. said he was on regular patrol going southbound on U.S. Highway 491 approaching Maloney Avenue when he saw a car being driven erratically.

He said the car appeared to make a turn onto Maloney Avenue, but instead it began traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on Munoz Overpass. As he pursued it, Villa said he saw it enter the westbound lane of Interstate 40 going the opposite direction.

Smith Lake man sentenced to 18 years on sexual abuse charges

ALBUQUERQUE – Galvan L. Betonie, 25, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Smith Lake, N.M., was sentenced Aug. 14 in federal court in Albuquerque to 216 months of imprisonment for his conviction on two aggravated child sexual abuse charges.

Betonie previously pleaded guilty to the two charges on April 18.  In his plea agreement, Betonie admitted committing the crimes in Indian Country in McKinley County, on Nov. 18, 2016. According to the plea agreement, Betonie sexually abused a child who had not attained the age of 12 years.

Zuni Pueblo man in federal custody pending manslaughter, assault charges

ALBUQUERQUE – A U.S. Magistrate Judge sitting in Albuquerque, N.M., ordered Terry Demetri Tsethlikai, 26, a member of Zuni Pueblo who resides in Black Rock, N.M., detained pending trial on an indictment charging him with manslaughter and assault charges Aug. 1.

Tsethlikai previously entered a not guilty plea to the three-count indictment on July 24.

A federal grand jury indicted Tsethlikai on June 27, and charged him with voluntary manslaughter, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Man wanted for violent armed robbery

The McKinley County Sheriff’s Office released an arrest warrant for Karl Thompson, 19, of Ganado.

The State of New Mexico authorized any officer to execute the warrant and arrest Thompson and bring him to the Magistrate Court to answer to 13 charges.

Thompson is wanted for one count of armed robbery; one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery; one count of accessory to commit armed robbery; five counts of assault to commit armed robbery; three counts of abuse to a child; one count of unlawfully carrying a firearm into a licensed liquor establishment; and one count of negligent use of a deadly weapon.
