Missing elderly man

Jimmy Owens, an 82-year-old man, has been missing since July 17. He was seen near the Economy Motel on the west side of Gallup.

Owens was last seen wearing a a black hat and orange checkered shirt. If you have seen him or know where he is, call Metro Dispatch at (505) 722-2002. Reference case # 22-28689.

Man shot at Champion Ford

A man was shot at the Champion Ford car dealership.

On July 17, at 6:59 pm, Gallup Police Officers were called to Champion Ford, 701 W Coal Avenue, Champion Ford, because a man had been shot. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a Native American man laying in the parking lot. They saw that the man had a gunshot wound to his head.

Medical personnel transported the man to the local hospital. He was later flown to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque. The man, who has not yet been identified, is currently listed in critical condition.

Shooting on Rim Rock Drive

On July 17, at 1:45 am, Gallup Police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Rim Rock Drive because a man had reportedly been shot.

Officers arrived on scene and discovered a male laying in the parking lot of the Red Hills Trailer park office. Officers saw that the male had a gunshot wound to his upper body.  Medical personnel arrived on scene where the male was transported to the local hospital, where he eventually died due to his injuries.

Victim’s sister looking for answers

It’s been almost two months since Octavia Johnson’s brother Byron Begay was killed, but she’s not giving up on trying to bring his killer to justice.

On May 10, Begay, 32, from Churchrock, was shot outside of the Cliffside Apartments, 602 Dani Dr. When the Gallup Police arrived at the scene, they found Begay with two gunshots to his torso area.

In an interview with the Sun on June 22, Johnson described her brother as someone who was always willing to help others.

Man reportedly bites two officers during fight

A man from Pinedale, N.M., has a long list of charges after a violent fight with police officers in which he bit two of them.

On June 27, around 11:26 am, Gallup Police Officer Matthew Strandy was dispatched to the Ranchito Motel, 1009 W. Coal Ave., when Officer Christopher Dawes called over the radio and requested that he help out with a violent situation.

When Strandy got to the motel, he noticed Dawes and Officer John Gonzales on the ground physically struggling with a man who was later identified as Elliot George. Lt. Mark Spencer was also at the scene, standing outside of a doorway with his taser in hand.
