E-mail Print PDF

This is the period you should focus on. Madame G recommends that you reevaluate your life and projects. What works and what doesn’t? Look deeply and don’t be afraid to answer honestly.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

The Sun is in your house this period. Allow the energy to flow through you and energize you. Now is the time to reevaluate your situation. Are you simply annoyed or is this the wrong path? It’s important to finish projects and commitments. However, it’s also important to know when to...

Remembering Bob Marley

The footprints of Bob Marley appear on the sand in Jamaica and across the earth wherever freedom is held hostage. Likened to Martin Luther King, Jr., Marley desired peace for his people. I am remembering Bob Marley with my words in this column. “Bob, you are missed. But your legend of light shines on and on and on.”

Nesta Robert Marley was born in 1945. Being biracial, Marley was bullied as a child, but declared, “I’m not on the white man’s side, or the black man’s side. I’m on God’s side.”

Marley died of cancer in...

Taxes for gig workers

E-mail Print PDF
The gig economy makes it possible for thousands of Americans to join the ranks of self-employed people, whether they’re driving for hire or doing short-term assignments as accountants or writers or using a 3-D printer to manufacture products for others.

Such jobs offer flexibility and independence, but they come with the same obligations as any other sole proprietorship, including the responsibility to file a Schedule C form and pay self-employment taxes in addition to income taxes they might owe if the business is profitable.

People who use their own equipment and set their own hours - such as Uber and Lyft drivers or plumbers and electricians who own their own businesses - are...

E-mail Print PDF
ALBUQUERQUE -  New Mexico is one of several states that have failed to increase their total per-student funding compared to a decade ago, according to a new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP). While 26 states have made larger investments in their K-12 students since 2008, per-student funding in New Mexico remained 9 percent less in 2016 than in 2008, after adjusting for inflation.

The report found that New Mexico ranks 33rd in per-pupil funding, after adjusting for the cost of living, poverty, and other factors among the 50 states.

“Even with the small increases made over the past two years, we’re still way behind in providing the funding necessary...
