Cosy Balok is a name many people in the Gallup-McKinley County community associate with animals. For ten years she has served as the animal protection supervisor at Gallup-McKinley County Humane Society. She and her husband Clint founded it in 1988 to help homeless and unwanted animals wandering in the county and the west-central area of the state.

Cosy Balok has decided the time has come to retire. Her decision gave rise to appreciative comments by Gallup Planning and Development Director Clyde Strain, who spoke about her work.

State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of November to reduce alcohol-related fatalities.

The New Mexico State Police says these checkpoints are helping change attitudes about drinking and driving.

A drive-thru food drive to benefit the Community Pantry is being sponsored by an international organization at the Red Rock Elementary School parking lot at 1305 Redrock Dr. from 12:00 pm-3:00 pm Nov. 13.
