A 17-year-old girl has been reported missing from the Gallup area. Desiree Martinez is five-feet-four-inches tall and weighs 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen on the evening of Jan. 20 at her grandmother's home. She left the house between 10 pm and 8 am Jan. 21.

It is unknown what she was wearing.

The teen has a scar on her left eyebrow and may be in the company of Jared Gonzales and Katie Chavez.

The possession of marijuana officially became legal in New Mexico on June 29. With that came a new challenge for the Gallup Police Department: figuring out how to continue to keep Gallup citizens safe.

The new law allows people 21 years old and older to use marijuana recreationally, but they can only have up to two ounces of cannabis, 16 grams of cannabis concentrates, and 800 milligrams of infused edibles. It’s illegal to consume marijuana in a vehicle on the roadway or in public.

In an effort to address the opioid addiction and overdose crisis in the nation, a group of state attorneys general and several companies came up with a deal in July that would tie lawsuits concerning opioid addiction against wholesale distributors together.

During the Jan. 11 city council meeting, Gallup’s City Attorney Curtis Hayes explained the situation to the council.
