A Zuni man remains incarcerated at the McKinley County Adult Detention Center as of Nov. 16 after being arrested for a number of charges including: assault upon a peace officer; resisting, evading or obstructing an officer; aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol; possessing an open container of alcohol; failing to stop at an intersection and failing to provide insurance charges, according to a police report. His bond is set at $3,000.

Gallup police officer Dominic Molina initially pulled over Christopher Hannaweeke, 21, on Nov. 3 for speeding on West Aztec Avenue. The stop led to a bizarre set of circumstances whereby Hannaweeke attempted to head-butt Molina and attempted to kick another police officer who was at the scene in an apparent attempt to escape from custody.

“I asked for driver’s license, registration and insurance,” Molina wrote in the report. “He handed me expired registration and expired insurance”.

Molina and another officer were able to momentarily calm Hannaweeke, but not before he attempted to head-butt another police officer, Molina wrote. Hannaweeke took a breathalyzer test administered by Molina, but Hannaweeke was vocally protesting being detained.

“While travelling to the jail for booking, he was head-butting the window of the unit once again,” Molina recorded. Molina wrote that Hannaweeke kicked the police car door so hard that he damaged the car’s door handle.

At one point during the arrest procedure, Hannaweeke reportedly told Molina, “Take my cuffs off, you’ll see what happens.”

Hannaweeke was ultimately taken to county jail while he continued yelling and shouting obscenities at Molina and other officers who assisted with the situation.
