Jan. 11, 6:45 am

DWI

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Savannah Williams said she was dispatched to a one-vehicle automobile crash at the intersection of Crestview Road and New Mexico Highway 118.

When she got there, Poinsettia Bitsuie, 26, of Window Rock, and her mother were standing a few feet from the vehicle.

Bitsuie said she was the driver. Williams said as she approached the vehicle, she could smell the alcohol coming from inside so she asked Bitsuie if she had been drinking.

Bitsuie admitted to having had a couple of drinks about 5 pm the previous night. She agreed to take the standard field tests, which she failed when she was observed swaying during the tests.

She later agreed to take the breath alcohol test and posted two samples of .11.

Jeremy Mitchell

Jan. 8, 6:11 pm

DWI

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Barnhurst was on his way home when he was informed another deputy was responding to a caller who said he saw a possible drunk driver at the Speedway Gas Station on U.S. Highway 491.

The caller said the driver had to be helped going to the restroom.

Barnhurst said he started driving that way hoping to get the driver before he headed back out onto the highway, but he failed. As he kept driving in the area looking for the car, he noticed a vehicle matching that description at the 22-mile marker. He also observed the car was swerving as it passed another vehicle.

He stopped the vehicle and went up to talk to the driver, identified as Jeremy Samuel Mitchell, 27, of Mexican Springs.

Since he showed signs of being intoxicated, he was given the standard field tests and failed. He later agreed to take a breath test and posted samples of .13 and .15. He was transported to the Crownpoint jail and booked.
