2018 1A-2A Champions honored at School Board meeting

The Navajo Pine boys cross country team proved that they were the best of the best in the state in 2018, and thus were acknowledged by the Gallup-McKinley County Schools Board of Education during their Jan. 28 regular meeting.

The Navajo Pine Warriors finished first overall in the New Mexico Activities Association 1A-2A State Championships last November. Navajo Pine runners claimed three of the top four spots in the 3 Miles Varsity category, and the school finished with an official team score of 31, well ahead of the score of 49 for the Pecos Panthers.

Nine runners were recognized during the meeting, and seven were present to accept a plaque as a symbol of their success and dedication. They were:

  • Galvin Curley
  • Michael Marshall
  • Adriano Tsosie
  • Karlisle Francisco
  • Nicholas Begay
  • Dominique Clichee
  • Marallus Chee
  • Dylan Keeto
  • Micah Tsosie

The coaching staff were also acknowledged: assistant coach and Navajo Pine Athetlic Director Sean Manuelito, assistant coach Eri Goodsoldier, and head coach Kyleligh Thompson. Each coach received a plaque, as well.

Board President Charles Long told the team, “Ahe’hee for doing a great job.”
