The Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit of the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office is looking for an apparent absconder. A warrant has been issued on the matter, officials said.

Alex Forkner, 32, of Gamerco, was convicted of criminal sexual penetration in 2005, and as of late has not checked in with the McKinley County Sex Offender’s Division as required by sex offenders.

Judith Grijalva, the sex offender compliance officer with the MCSO, said Forkner must notify the sheriff’s office anytime there is a change of address. Not doing so is considered a violation of the law and is considered a fourth degree felony and punishable by jail time, she said.

“(Alex Forkner) failed to show up for his quarterly registration,” Grijalva said. “He was scheduled to come in on Nov. 8 at 11:30 am.”

Grijalva said her office got an anonymous tip last month that Forkner was not living at the address that he was supposed to be living at in Gamerco. She said the wife of Forkner said he’d left the last known residence and had not returned since the end of October 2016.

The wife reportedly said she believed Forkner was living with friends near the Black Diamond Canyon area of Gallup.

Jail records at the McKinley County Adult Detention Center indicate that Forkner was last incarcerated in 2014 for operating a motor vehicle without proper licensure.
