Minnesota native holds doctoral degree in American Studies

VANDERWAGEN – Investing in behavioral health services, post-traumatic stress disorder, suicide rates and domestic violence encompass the political platform that Jordon Johnson hopes to carry to victory in the June 7 primary for a District 4 seat of the New Mexico Senate.

“I am running for office to improve the quality of life and living conditions of our communities, families, and future generations,” Johnson, a Minnesota native, said. “I am concerned about the health and wellness of our people. We need to invest in our behavioral health services — leaving no one behind — and create rural economic development opportunities, which include our tribal communities.”

Johnson, of Vanderwagen, possesses a doctoral degree in American Studies from the University of New Mexico. He previously ran for a state House of Representatives seat in 2014. He has never held public office in New Mexico or elsewhere. He said if elected, he’ll also focus on early childhood education funding and giving district constituents a voice in the political process, adding, “… we need to protect our workers and collective bargaining rights.”

Johnson is employed as the coordinator for the McKinley Community PLACE MATTERS. Johnson is running against incumbent District 4 State Senator George Muñoz and political newcomer Felisha Adams. District 4 includes McKinley and Cibola counties.
