“It was an amazing time tonight,” said coach Eric Taylor of the Rehoboth Lady Lynx, “simply an amazing opportunity for our girls.”

The Rehoboth Women’s Soccer Program held the first ever Lady Lynx Soccer Showcase at Ford Canyon’s upper field on Oct. 12. Set up in a timed rotation, players were able to work on their touches, agility, and shots while learning the “why” behind the techniques involved in the beautiful game from players of the Rehoboth Women’s Soccer team. One parent commented during the showcase, “just look at the smile on their faces!”

Kathy Polich, director for the Gallup Youth Soccer League said that they are very excited about a Spring Edition of the same type. And, Derek Chavez, assisting Polich, is wanting Rehoboth Christian Women’s Soccer to work with older players next, sharing a bit of their time with the next generation of soccer players from Gallup and the surrounding areas.

Coach Taylor also acknowledged the benefit to his players. “The girls did a good job tonight and, in addition, built some bridges in the town. The children that participated tonight saw our athletes’ names, our numbers, heard our explanations for why do one thing or another, pass this way or save the ball that way, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they show up to games looking to see us “put it all together! Some of this showcase was about creating accountability on the pitch.”

Smiles were everywhere for the 50 or more Gallup youth soccer players in attendance. “The girls and I cannot wait to see these soccer players again.” Taylor said.

The following teams were involved tonight in Rehoboth’s Women’s Soccer’s first showcase:

U10B-DePauli Engineering and Family Medicine

U10G-Holiday Carwash, Red Roof Inn

U12B-Anasazi Traders

U12G-Family Medicine

U14-T&R Market

U12B-Enchantment Physical Therapy

The guiding principle for the Rehoboth Christian School’s Women’s Soccer program is short and exemplified by these words, “Positive, Patient, and Progressive Soccer.”

Although the season is nearing its end, check out the Sports Schedule in these pages and make plans to attend a home game at their pitch on the Rehoboth campus before the season is done.
