Kalani Charley

July 14, 10:44 pm

Aggravated DWI

McKinley County Deputy Terence Willie said he was dispatched to County Road 1 to investigate a car crash. When he got there, he found Kalani Charley, 21, of Gallup, standing by his vehicle next to his mother, who had come to the scene after her son had called her.

Charley’s girlfriend was seated in the car. Willie said he noticed that Charley showed signs of being intoxicated and asked if he had been drinking. He said no, but admitted to taking drugs earlier in the morning.

He agreed to take the standard field sobriety tests and failed, having a hard time keeping his balance. He was arrested for DWI.

Willie then talked to Charley’s girlfriend who admitted she and Charley had been drinking earlier that day.

Charley agreed to take a breath alcohol test and posted two samples of .21. He was then transported to the county jail and booked and refused entry by the nurse

After that he was dropped off at his father’s house and will be charged with aggravated DWI.

Emmitt Duboise

July 10, 02:48 am

Aggravated DWI (Second)

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Nocona Clark was dispatched to the area of Six Mile Canyon Road and State Highway 400 in reference to a vehicle rollover. Clark and Deputy Clayton Etsitty were flagged down by a man who directed them to the crash site.

When the officers reached the site about a quarter of a mile from the location given by Metro Dispatch, they made contact with Emmitt Duboise, 27, of Vanderwagen, who told them he let his friend drive because he was intoxicated. However, he said he later woke up to the vehicle rolling over.

Duboise said his friend had left him at the scene, but he would be able to identify his face. Clark noted Duboise had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech along with a smell of alcohol on his person.

Medical units arrived on scene with a male who was identified as the passenger in the vehicle. He stated Duboise had been the one driving during the crash and showed he had a video where he and Duboise were talking about switching seats later on, and Duboise had been driving.

After explaining the findings to Duboise, Clark asked him if he would take the standard field sobriety tests and he refused. He also refused to give a breath sample.

Clark transported Duboise to obtain a medical clearance, and then to the county jail where he was booked for aggravated DWI and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Duboise was released on his own recognizance by a judge.

Arnall Jim

July 8, 2:40 pm

Aggravated DWI

Gallup Police Officer Timo Molina said he was on regular patrol when he was dispatched to the area of Stagecoach Mini Park in connection with a possible drunk driver.

When he got there, he saw two vehicles, one driven by Arnall Jim, 33, of Mexican Springs. The other turned out to be a woman who said she called 911 because she saw the other car being driven dangerously.

Molina then talked to Jim, who showed signs of being intoxicated. Molina said he also saw empty liquor bottles on the passenger seat. He asked Jim if he had been drinking and Jim admitted he had a little to drink earlier.

Jim agreed to take the standard field sobriety tests and told Molina halfway through, he should just go ahead and arrest him, but Molina finished the tests, which Jim failed. He was then arrested for DWI.

Jim was released on his own recognizance by a judge.

Dorian Julian Yazzie

June 25, 11:57 am

Aggravated DWI

Gallup Police Officer Harland Soseeah was dispatched to the Speedway on West Highway 66 in connection with a report of a drunk driver. When he got there, he found another officer had arrived and had conducted a traffic stop.

Soseeah then took over the investigation. He said when he began talking to Dorian Yazzie, 21 of Sheep Springs, N.M., he could smell liquor on his breath, so he asked him where he was going.

Yazzie said he had gone to pick up liquor for his girlfriend who was staying at the Days Inn. When asked how much he had to drink, he admitted to having had four miniatures.

He then agreed to take the standard field sobriety tests and failed, saying at the end, “You might just as well take me in, because you smelled liquor on my breath.”

He was arrested for DWI. He then agreed to take a breath alcohol test and posted samples of .23 and .24.

When he was transported to the county jail, officers there refused to book him because they thought he might have the coronavirus. He was released outside the detention center. A criminal summons was to be turned in to the McKinley County Magistrate Court for a later court hearing. The detention center reported that Yazzie was released on his own recognizance by a judge.
