Gallup Police are investigating a body found across from Long John Silver’s restaurant, and north of the railroad tracks on Gallup’s east side April 16.

The department responded after a caller notified GPD about the body that was found leaning against a wall in a ditch area of the Puerco River.

The individual was only identified as a male. And at this time, the department does not suspect foul play.

The body will be sent off for an autopsy to learn more about the cause of death.

“Once we get any results from the autopsy, then we can give more information… but at this time, nothing looked suspicious,” GPD Capt. Erin Toadlena-Pablo said.

Toadlena-Pablo said the department says law enforcement and investigators continue to take precautions — and “enhanced” precautions in the COVID-19 era — when working with bodies found.

Police will not release victim’s name until next of kin has been notified.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
