TRUCK STOP SHOPLIFTER

Gallup, Feb. 7

A Vanderwagen man is facing aggravated assault and shoplifting charges after he attempted to steal fireworks and beer from Love’s Travel Center and the Navajo Travel Center on West Highway 66.

Gallup police were called to Love’s about 2:49 am on Feb. 7. When they got there, they found Stewart Gishie, 42, of Vanderwagen, being detained by business personnel.

James Renden, the manager of the nearby Navajo Travel Center, said he saw Gishie take $150 worth of fireworks from his store. He followed him outside to Gishie’s car whereupon Gishie hit him on his torso with his car door in an attempt to escape.

Renden said Gishie then began backing up toward him, forcing him to jump away to avoid being hit.

Gishie then reportedly drove to the nearby Love’s where he shoplifted beer and then attempted to escape by car.

This time his theft was observed by Alexander Ashley, the manager of the store, who chased after him. Ashley said Gishie pushed the pack of beer in Ashley’s face to get away, but Ashley was able to pin him on the ground and detain him until police arrived.

He was booked on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of battery and two counts of shoplifting.

APARTMENT ASSAULT

Gallup, Feb. 4

Shirdelle Harrison, 24, of Many Farms, was arrested on domestic violence charges after a Gallup woman complained that her sister was being beaten up.

Gallup Patrolman Jared Albert said he responded to a call around 9:47 pm at an apartment complex on Montoya Blvd. When he got there he talked to a woman who pointed to an apartment with an open door and said she heard the occupants fighting. When he got to the door, Albert said he saw blood all over the floor inside.

He found Harrison in the back room along with a woman and a three-year-old child. The woman said she and her boyfriend got into an argument that became physical. She said she was punched in the nose and eye during the fight. She added that she threw a punch at Harrison in self-defense, but missed.

She also said she tried to leave the apartment several times, but he stood in front of her preventing her from leaving.

Harrison was arrested and charged with abuse of a child, aggravated battery against a household member and false imprisonment.

BREAK-IN ARREST

Gallup, Jan. 30

The break-in of a business on South Second Street has led to the arrest of two Gallup residents.

Police were called to the home of Lyndon Tsosie (owner of the business) at about 9:17 pm when an alarm went off. Officers found the front window broken.

Lyndon Tsosie, the owner of the business, said he had a video surveillance system on his phone and observed a man enter the business and take two fans, each valued at about $50.

Police had apprehended Armondo Eddie, 35, of Gallup and Michelle Thompson, 38, of Gallup. Both of them had possession of fans when arrested. Business management said it would cost about $1000 to replace the window.

Video of the incident showed a man matching Eddie’s description enter the business and take the fans. Eddie was charged with burglary and criminal damage to private property while Thompson was charged with possession of stolen property.
