SANTA FE - Former – Former U.S. Army Major Bryan Osterhage has been named Deputy Secretary for the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services.

The native of Belleville, Ill., earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Truman State University in 2004, and a law degree from the Saint Louis University School of Law. He enlisted in the Army in 2010 as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps before completing his active-duty service earlier this year.

During his military service, Deputy Secretary Osterhage was stationed at Fort Bragg, N. C. Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Knox, Ky., and Fort Belvoir, Va. He was deployed to Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Liberia – earning a Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal during his nine-year Army service.

Deputy Secretary Osterhage will be based in the DVS main office in the Bataan Memorial Building in Santa Fe and will report directly to DVS Secretary Judy Griego, where he will assist her with overseeing the agency’s divisions and fourteen field offices located throughout the state.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Bryan to the DVS family,” said Griego. “He comes highly recommended. His excellent track record of advising and assisting senior-level officers will really help DVS as the agency continues to look for ways to improve serving New Mexico’s veterans and their families.”
